FOODSAFE Level I is a food handling, sanitation and work safety course designed for front line food service workers such as cooks, servers, bussers, dishwashers, deli workers and health care providers. The course covers important food safety and worker safety information including foodborne illness, receiving and storing food, preparing food, serving food, cleaning and sanitizing.
The BC Health Act: Food Premises Regulation states that every operator of a food service establishment, and at least one employee on every shift, must hold a FOODSAFE Level I certificate, or certificate from a course recognized as equivalent to FOODSAFE.
The BC Centre for Disease Control maintains a list of courses considered to be equivalent to BC’s FOODSAFE Level I course.
FOODSAFE Level I is delivered as an eight hour face-to-face class.

The FOODSAFE Level 1 course instruction is available in English only. Workbooks and Exams are available in multiple language. Please select when you register.
Level I Workbooks
FOODSAFE Level I workbooks are available in English, French, Chinese, Korean and Punjabi. (English Workbook – NO CHARGE. All other language workbooks $10)
Level I Exams
FOODSAFE Level 1 exams are available in the following languages: NO EXTRA CHARGE
Please let your FOODSAFE instructor know in advance (at registration) if you would like to have your workbook and/or examination in a language other than English.
